WHAT IS CLO₂ ANYWAY?

Chlorine Dioxide is a chemical compound with the formula ClO₂, one Chlorine and two Oxygens. It has a yellow-green colour as a gas and it does not hydrolyse in water hence it acts as dissolved gas in water.  Unlike Chlorine which is chlorinating, Chlorine Dioxide is oxidising.

Chlorine Dioxide was discovered over 100 hundred years ago. Since then it has been widely used as a safe and strong oxidising agent as a water treatment for drinking water. More recent developments have extended its application into food processing, disinfection of premises and vehicles, mold eradication, air disinfection and odour control, water treatment of swimming pools, dental applications, and wound cleansing.

Here's how DX50 Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide works

Pathogenic bacteria are small in size and carry a low energy charge – 2 millivolt (200 MV). DX50 Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide carries a voltage of 942MV. This superior voltage gives it an electrical strength that overpowers the weaker bacteria – like a Middle Weight boxer fighting a Feather Weight.

When DX50 Stabilised Chlorine Dioxide comes into contact with bacteria, it seeks to give one of its four electrons to the micro-organism. Now Bad Bugs don't want to make the exchange but are forced to receive the extra electron because of DX50's superior electrical strength. This give-and-take process is called oxidation and it is lethal to bacteria.

Just beneath the surface is the key

When oxidation occurs, the cell wall and membrane of the bacteria is dissolved, exposing the enzymes that lie beneath the surface. This is crucial. These enzymes control the biochemical reactions within that cell. Once DX50 comes into contact with these enzymes, it immediately deactivates them by breaking their chemical chains

It's like hitting the KILL SWITCH. With the enzymes ruined, the bad bacteria is instantly destroyed.

Chlorine Dioxide cannot be resisted

The triggering action for DX50 Sanitiser is the sugar-like substances that are an integral part of the target pathogen cell walls.  

Due to this mode of action, disease bearing organisms cannot build up resistance to the product.

There's a reason why we need DX50

​The Bacteria Bad Guys

They’re called Pathogens, microscopic organisms that cause animal diseases by direct invasion of tissue. These bad guys reproduce on their own and produce toxins that poison the cells they invade.

The typical way we destroy these dangerous microbes is with chlorine

Chlorine kills good bacteria

The problem with standard chlorine is that it doesn’t differentiate between bad bacteria and good bacteria. It is a blind bomb that kills all micro-organisms indiscriminately by burning everything it touches – bad bugs, good bugs, pipes, concrete, rubber and people.

Is it such a big deal if the good bugs are killed with the bad bugs?

Killing good microbes with Chlorine may not sound like that big a deal, especially if the Bad Bugs are killed as well. But consider the jobs that good bacteria perform in your farm. 

Good bacteria enrich your soil by converting nitrogen and other nutrients into forms that can be more readily taken up by plants. That means better grass. 

Good bacteria also work in the gut of every cow helping the animal digest grass more efficiently. That means better milk production. 

Good bacteria, when present in the effluent pond, eat the crust and sludge solids and convert NPK into more stable forms. That means a better liquefied fertiliser. We absolutely need good bacteria for our farms to run well.

Slurry Bugs liquefied this crusted pond. But during this trial, we noticed that the condition of pond began to go backwards after five weeks and that a green coloration appeared where Slurry Bug activity had been dynamic. On closer inspection, it was clear that the Slurry Bugs were no longer active. Chlorine from the shed run over killed the Good Guys.
